19Th Century Welsh Folk Art Coat hooks.

£385.00

A striking and highly characterful set of 19th century Welsh coat hooks.

Mounted on a simple timber backboard, the rack is fitted with a series of naturally formed black cow horn hooks, each one unique in size, curve, and tone. The horns graduate across the board, creating a pleasing rhythm while showcasing the organic variation inherent in the material. Their rich, polished surfaces display deep tones of black, brown, and honey, catching the light beautifully.

The backboard retains a dark, aged finish with hints of earlier paint layers visible at the edges, contributing to its authentic, timeworn appeal. The combination of utilitarian craftsmanship and natural materials is typical of Welsh rural interiors of the 19th century, where practicality and resourcefulness shaped design.

Both sculptural and functional, this piece would have originally served in a farmhouse setting for hanging coats, hats, and workwear. Today it stands as a wonderful example of vernacular Welsh folk
