18Th Century Welsh Settle.

£1,400.00

This is a fine example of a late 18th to early 19th century Welsh Pembrokeshire settle, a traditional

Constructed in solid elm and ash,  the settle features a high slightly raked back composed of five fielded panels within a robust frame. with a beautiful seat with a  lift up compartment  to reveal a internal storage, typical of regional settles designed for both practicality and durability in rural homes.

The shaped arms are supported by simple turned uprights, adding a subtle decorative element while retaining a restrained, utilitarian character. The front is formed with a series of recessed panels, echoing the construction of the back and reinforcing its cohesive design.

Of particular note is the richly patinated surface. The settle retains traces of its original painted finish, now beautifully worn and weathered through time, revealing layers of earthy reds and greens beneath a darkened over-surface. This authentic surface wear lends the piece considerable character and speaks to its long history of use.

Raised on simple square legs, the overall form is sturdy and grounded, typical of Pembrokeshire furniture of this period. The proportions are both functional and inviting, making it a striking yet practical addition to an interior.

A genuine and characterful example of Welsh vernacular furniture.
