19Th Century Tall Book Cabinet.
£1,900.00
A fine 19th century provincial estate bookcase of particularly elegant and well-balanced proportions, retaining an exceptional untouched surface throughout.
The moulded cornice sits above a pair of glazed upper doors opening to a shelved interior with adjustable shelves, the original side notched supports still present. The glazing allows for display while maintaining a refined architectural symmetry. Below, a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclose further storage, all raised on a simple plinth base.
What truly distinguishes this piece is its beautifully dry, naturally aged patina. The original painted and varnished surface has mellowed over time to a rich, darkened tone, displaying attractive crackling and subtle wear consistent with honest estate use. The surface has a depth and texture that only generations of age can produce.
Provincially made yet sophisticated in form, this bookcase combines practicality with understated elegance — a characterful and highly decorative storage piece suited equally to a country house or refined interior setting.
