A Collection Of Eight 20Th Century Ceramic Pug Dogs.
A Remarkable Collection of Mid-20th Century Studio Pottery Pug Dogs
An engaging and highly characterful collection of eight life-size studio pottery pug dogs, produced by a Welsh pottery artist circa 1950s–1960s. The group comprises six examples finished in a soft cream/white glaze and two in a contrasting glossy black glaze, creating a striking and playful visual ensemble.
Each pug has been mould-formed and then individually hand-finished, resulting in subtle but deliberate variations in facial expression, stance and modelling. These differences give each dog its own distinct personality, clearly reflecting the hand of the maker rather than factory production. The characteristic curled tails, alert postures and expressive faces are particularly well observed.
Executed in ceramic and finished with a smooth, even glaze, the dogs retain a strong sculptural presence and display beautifully either as a complete group or arranged individually. Their scale and naturalistic modelling suggest they were conceived as statement decorative pieces rather than novelty items.
A rare and delightful survival of post-war Welsh studio pottery, combining humour, craftsmanship and mid-century character. An exceptional find for collectors of studio ceramics, animal sculpture or distinctive interior decorative objects.

We would prefer to sell as a group of eight and would give a much more favourable price than individually.
