18Th Century Painted Welsh Cricket Table.
18th Century Welsh Painted Cricket Table
A rare and characterful 18th century Welsh painted cricket table, recently discovered in a farmhouse near St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales. A superb untouched example, retaining outstanding original colour and surface with a wonderfully rich, time-worn patina developed over more than two centuries of use.
The table features a solid elm plank round top, beautifully worn and darkened through age, raised on three ash legs of classic Welsh cricket table form. Below sits a shaped triangular undertier, , retaining traces of its original paint and surface wear, adding greatly to the table’s authenticity and appeal.
The original paintwork survives throughout with exceptional depth and honesty, showing layers of historic use, knocks, and wear exactly as one hopes to find. The proportions are excellent, giving the table a strong yet understated country presence.
Welsh cricket tables of this period are increasingly scarce, particularly examples with such unspoilt surfaces, documented local discovery, and original construction. A highly desirable piece of early Welsh vernacular furniture, equally suited to a traditional interior or as a statement piece in a contemporary setting.
