18Th Century Welsh Cricket Table.
An extraordinary 18th-century Welsh cricket table, displaying the bold vernacular workmanship and sculptural simplicity associated with rural Welsh furniture of the period. The beautifully figured single-plank burr elm top is richly patinated, exhibiting mesmerising grain movement, natural knots, and undulating organic character accumulated through centuries of use. Its substantial circular form retains a wonderfully tactile, hand-worked edge with evidence of age and honest wear.
Raised on elegant tapering ash legs, deeply stained and beautifully proportioned, the table possesses a striking architectural presence while maintaining the rustic honesty of its country origins. The legs are traditionally socketed directly into the underside of the top, revealing the naïve ingenuity and robust construction synonymous with early Welsh vernacular furniture.
The underside natural burr formations, and historic tool marks adding to its sculptural appeal. Rich colour, exceptional surface texture, and an untouched.
The Table comes with impeccable provenance from a Private collection.
