19Th Century Welsh Cricket Table.

£850.00

A charming  19th century Welsh cricket table, recently discovered in the Cardiganshire area of West Wales.

The table features a well-figured circular pine top, beautifully timeworn with a soft, honeyed patina built up over generations of use. The surface displays honest wear, small marks and tonal variation consistent with age.

The base is constructed in ash, traditionally favoured in Welsh rural furniture for its strength and resilience. It retains its original dark painted finish, now gently mellowed with age. The classic “cricket table” form — with its three splayed legs — is strengthened by a distinctive triangular under-tier arrangement, adding both structural integrity and pleasing architectural presence. The pegged and boarded construction of the under-tier with wonderful wear on the boards from years of resting ones feet.

Cricket tables are synonymous with Welsh vernacular furniture, particularly associated with the rural homes and farmhouses of West Wales throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Their practicality, stability on uneven flagstone floors, and simple honest construction make them enduringly desirable.

A genuine and evocative example of Welsh country furniture, full of regional character and rustic charm.
