Aesthetic Movement Bamboo Display Cabinet with Chinoiserie Lacquer Panels, c. 1880

A charming late 19th-century English  tiger bamboo display cabinet, dating to the Aesthetic Movement period, c.1880. Of elegant proportions, the cabinet features two glazed doors enclosing three internal shelves, all framed in stained and varnished bamboo. The cabinet top is inset with a richly decorated chinoiserie lacquer panel, hand-painted with floral motifs and birds, while the sides are finished in japanned lacquer. A decorative bamboo gallery with a central scrolled metalwork motif completes the design, reflecting the period’s fascination with the exotic and the natural.
