Napoleon Bonaparte.
£185.00
An original early 19th-century memorial portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, depicting the Emperor in both frontal and profile views within a clouded vignette, symbolising his enduring legacy following his exile and death on St Helena. The portrait bears the title “Napoleon” with a faint commemorative inscription beneath relating to 1821. Executed in monochrome, the image has a soft, almost photographic quality typical of the finest engraved and lithographic memorial prints of the period.
Presented in its original ebonised ripple-moulded wooden frame with gilt inner slip, with a sleepy untouched back.
