19th-Century Mahogany Saddle Horse
A fine 19th-century mahogany saddle horse, of robust and unusual construction, raised on four turned and moulded legs joined by a substantial stretcher frame. The warm, richly patinated mahogany throughout displays attractive figuring, age-related wear and an appealing antique surface.
The shaped, barrel-form body is enclosed by curved wooden panels, with an open central section revealing the supporting framework. The upper section incorporates a distinctive shaped saddle with a raised pommel and cantle, The saddle and body retain evidence of considerable age and use, including surface marks, minor knocks and historic wear consistent with its period.
