Large 1940S Royal Mail Sorting Table.

A rare and impressive Royal Mail postal sorting table, made in 1939 by John Williams & Sons of Cardiff, retaining its original industrial cast iron base and a beautifully rich single-piece of cuban  mahogany top.

Measuring approximately 10 feet long by just under 4 feet wide, this is a substantial working table with exceptional presence. Originally used in a Royal Mail sorting office, it was built for daily institutional use, combining practicality, durability, and understated elegance.

The tabletop is particularly notable: a large one-piece mahogany slab, with a deep attractive grain, and a worn polished surface developed through decades of use. The top has the honest character expected from a working postal table of this age, including surface marks, small knocks, age-related wear, and patina, all adding to its authenticity.

The table stands on two heavy black cast iron trestle-style legs, each with strong architectural X-frame bracing and broad bolted feet.

With its generous proportions and industrial history, this piece would make an outstanding dining table.

The table can be deconstructed and dismantles into four pieces for transportation.
