Aesthetic Movement Bamboo Corner Cabinet, c. 1880

An exceptional Aesthetic Movement corner cabinet in finely patinated tiger bamboo, dating to circa 1880. This rare and sculptural piece features an open mirrored galleried top with stylised fan motifs and fretwork detailing, reflecting the Anglo-Japanese influence popular in the period. Below sits a glazed display compartment backed in bold, original embossed floral paper. The cabinet is raised on four splayed legs joined by an angular stretcher and a lower lacquered shelf, hand-painted with delicate red chinoiserie floral designs. Decorative scrollwork and finely worked geometric forms throughout lend a sense of both structure and whimsy. A striking and elegant example of late 19th-century design.
