Two 19Th Century Indian Sadhu Holy Men.

Two mid 19th century terracotta Indian Figures representing two Sadhu holy men. These terracotta figures are made from sun-dried clay and painted and finished with hair and clothing garments, made in Krishnanagar near Calcutta which has been famous for making terracotta effigies for hundreds of years and in the 19th century started to make these wonderful figures as souvenirs for the Europeans to show the different costumes and religions and way of Indian life to the family and friends back in Blighty. The attention to detail is quite astonishing.
