Decaying Grandeur

A 19th century buttoned library sofa made by “James Shoolbred & Co London” stamped on back leg, covered in a buttoned red moroccan leather and standing on a turned mahogany leg and original brass castors.

James Shoolbred and company was a draper and later a department store located of Tottenham Court road London.The store was established in the 1820s at 155 Tottenham Court Road selling textiles for home furnishing. In the 1870s the store began designing, manufacturing and selling high quality furniture. 

This sofa is in unrestored condition and needs to be re-webbed on its under carriage,A new back panel is needed and a few ripped areas on the buttoning but nothing major, the frame is in good order and castors work well.
