19Th Century Anglo Indian Elk Horn Box.


A beautiful mid 19th century (circa 1850) Elk horn and sandalwood Vizagapatam  box, made of sandalwood overlaid with strips of elk horn with a radiating sunburst top, the interior has been padded in silk probably used as a needle work box.

Made on the east coast of India in the town of Vizagapatam famous for making incredible works of art from ivory, horn and other natural materials in the  18th and 19th century for export.

Condition : very good condition no damage to horn.
